Course description

This course aims to introduce the importance of counseling for Christian ministers’ ministry. It contains the ministry of pastoral care, how the pastors should approach the clients, and counseling situations. It will be covered in block A and B. The teaching-learning process follows lectures, class discussion and field work. It is given for Diploma III students of Tabor Evangelical College.

Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to give knowledge for students how to counsel and approach clients.

The course intends to help students:

·         To understand the work of pastors as shepherds, historical background of counseling in early and medieval churches

·         To know how pastors should approach and practice counseling in order to give advice to the clients based on their problems.

·         To examine the experiences of pastors’ counseling methods on marriage, family relationship, and on sickness, bereavement.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course students should be able to:

·         Explain what the Bible teaches about shepherds and clients roles in counseling process.

·         Describes how should the pastors approach the clients and give counseling.

·         Practice what they learn about counseling in their ministries.

  1. The Purpose of TEC MD

The Tabor Evangelical College Missiology Department is established to serve the Triune God, His Church and His People in performing the following activities:

1. To participate in Great Commission of proclamation of the Gospel through a right teaching and preaching of God’s Word in such a way that it becomes meaningful to the Ethiopian citizens and others in their particular settings.

2. The task of the church involves spiritual growth as well as numerical growth. Thus, the main purpose of TEC Missiology Department is to undertake training programs for the ministers of the Evangelical Churches in the field of mission and evangelism.

3. It also strengthen human power capacity of the congregations in the synods so as to enable them to carry on their ongoing, evangelistic ministries more efficiently and in a more fruitful manner across cultures and to produce component field missionaries, mission educators, and church leaders.

For the Degree program TEC MD has three main goals: 

Knowledgeable Minds – Candidates serving in the Mission of God with knowledgeable minds for critical reflection

Adequate skills – Candidates serving in the Mission of God with adequate skills for a holistic and contextualized ministry

Dedicated hearts – Candidates serving in the Mission of God with dedicated hearts and mature commitment

Tabor Evangelical College2013-2014 Training programs and criteria

The mission of TEC is to equip ministers for the accomplishment of the Great Commission of the Lord. Last four years TEC-MD has been training ministers in Missiology at Diploma level. Since Sept. 2012 we have been training students in Theology (speciall focus on missiology) at BTH level. We invite all the churches and organizations who would like to train and send missionaries and future leaders.

Programs for the 2013-14 Academic year

  1. BTH in Theology (4 years study): We recieve candidates who completed 10+ 3 diploma in any field of study and  have GPA of 2.5 or according to the current education policy who completed perparatory school and scored above 265 or according to the previous education policy who completed 12th grade and scored 2.00 and above. The candidates should attend the English language crash course given from July 15 to August 11 and must pass the English enterance exam and interview given on the 11th of August 2013.
    1. 2.  The diploma in Missiology program (3 years study): we recieve students who completed 10th grade and have minimum result of 2.0 or those who according to the privious education policy completed grade 12 and scored 1.8 and above. The candidates must pass the English entrance exam and interview given on the 11th of august 2013.
    2. 3.  For the Advanced certificate program (in Amharic), TEC receives students who completed 1st year Bible School of the EECMY.The candidates will receive (Bible and Chruch history) enterence Exam on Sept 16/2013.

 

The candidates for the Degree and Diploma progaram will pay for the crash course, ETB 50 for registration and ETB 325 as course fee; i.e. total of ETB 375. this will not include the one month food allowance and the transport of the student.  
  1. TEC also teaches ministers in Hawassa and its surrounding in evening and weekend degree programs.The crateria for the degree night/weekend program is similar with the BTH program described in no.1 above. The candidates will take an entrance exam prepared for them on August 11/2013. The candidates can also take the English Language crash course given to the candidates of the regular degree and dimploma programs mentioned above paying ETB 375.
